Watercolor Blog Hop

This is another of the special hops brought to you by the Stamp of the Month Consultants. For this hop we're featuring WATERCOLORS. That could mean paint or pencils and I went with paint!

If you've arrived from Carol Taggio's blog you're on the right track. Just keep clicking on the links to move on to the next hop!

Now back to watercoloring! I was inspired by a layout created by the talented Tresa Black where she painted watercolors onto one of our My Acrylix Blocks and then stamped it onto the watercolor cardstock. I LOVED this look and wanted to give it a try, so here is my result.

The trick to getting a nice look was to have the paint on the block kind of soupy wet. Just before stamping you spritz it with some more water and then stamp! You'll see the paint moving around on the block before stamping and that is ok and gives a good result. On some I used two colors and others I used three and I love how each square comes out looking different.

A couple of other techniques I used on this layout was to Cricut cut the hearts background piece and the title. Once the title was cut I used my journal pen to outline the letters and around the squares. The small hearts are from the Fundamental Assortments. The journal strips were typed in Word and printed on cardstock, cut and outlined like the title. I also did a splatter behind the heart background. Ok I'll be honest. While painting the watercolor onto the block I dribbled on the cardstock. I can be a real klutz at times. So instead of starting over I decided to incorporate it by flicking my paintbrush onto the cardstock. This gave a nice splatter effect and made it look like it was part of the design! It's a bit hard to see the smaller splatters, but they are there and it really worked out well. Another tip is to use one of our Craft Boxes as a water dish! The cover on the box makes for easy transport to/from the sink.

  1. I love how an "accident" became part of the actual layout - as it is said in paper crafting - there are no mistakes, just opportunities to embellish! Your did a wonderful job of that and your layout looks absolutely fabulous! Every aspect of it looks completely intended and it is simply gorgeous.

  4. Fabulous layout, Michelle! You didn't make any mistakes by dripping your paint on the white area--you just did a "variation" which turned out beautifully. Thanks for inspiring me today!

  7. Fabulous layout Michelle! Had you not written that that the splatters were an accident I would have never known.
