What's Up Wednesday ~ Layout

Welcome to What's Up Wednesday! This week I'm sharing an idea inspired by Janice Gilhooley for using only 3 sheets of 6" x 6" sheets of DSP! That's right....only 3 sheets!

I've selected my favorite DSP papers from the Beautiful Gallery Suite. It accents the blues, grays and tans in my photos nicely. You want your design to make your photos the star of your layout.

Once you have your 3 sheets of DSP selected, cut each piece into a 4" x 6" size. Now each piece has a 2" x 6" leftover piece. Take the 2" strips and cut in half to make 3" x 6" pieces. These small pieces will be used on the left page and the larger pieces on the right page. Ink the edges of the DSP by tapping them on the Secret Sea ink Pad. Set aside.

Cut a piece of Secret Sea CS to 5" x 10" and a second piece to 5" x 7". Use the corner die in one corner on each piece. Apply white pigment ink to accent this die cut using a blending brush. Set aside.

Die cut 3 flower, 3 leaf images and a title in Cloud Cover CS. Set aside.

For the layout base use full sheets of Secret Sea and White Willow. The white needs to be cut 1/2"one side then turned 90 degrees and trimmed 1/4". This gives you an an equal border on 3 sides with the right edge lined up with the base edge.

To assemble the LEFT page glue down the white to the layout base. My photos are 3" x 4" and fit well on the larger Secret Sea mat. You could also use a 4" x 6" photo and then have space for a journal spot. Position this photo mat on the base to determine where to stamp your accent images in 2nd or 3rd generation Secret Sea. You just want the images peeking out. Once your stamping is done glue down the photo mat.

Next up is the DSP. Place the top strips and overlap the middle one onto the outer two strips. Do the same with the lower strips making the middle overlay. This gives the impression the strips are connected and run under the photo mat.

Place the die cut flowers and leaves as shown. The title goes along the top of the photos and the Pressed Flower Motifs are scattered around the page.

Now let's make the RIGHT page! Place the DSP large pieces starting with the one in the upper right corner. Decide where to stamp the accent images and stamp them again using 2nd or 3rd generation ink then glue down the DSP. Glue down the photo mat with the die cut corner leaving the top edge free so you can slip a couple of photo edges behind. After they are placed you can glue it down on top of the other photos. Add the die cut flowers and leaves. Add your Pressed Flower Motifs as you like.

There you go! A very lovely double page layout using only 3 sheets of 6" x 6" DSP! Change out the DSP for a totally different look! Want to use patterns from larger DSP sheets? Just trim them down to 6" x 6" and you're good to go! I LOVE this design and will be using it over and over again. Let's see if you can spot the design dressed in different colors/DSP!
