Color Dare #157 ~ Pacifica, Sweet Leaf + Colonial White and Kraft

It's Friday and that means a new Color Dare! Color My Heart features a new color combo each Friday to inspire you in your creative endeavors! This week the Design Team is featuring Pacifica, Sweet Leaf with Colonial White and Kraft. If you don't have these exact colors use something as close as possible! Get your creative mojo on and join us!

I've made a standard sized card (4.25" x 5.5") with a Colonial White base. I dry embossed the Kraft CS and free hand cut a hole to look like a hole in a tree. I also lightly sponged a bit of Desert Sand ink across the raised lines to make them stand out a bit more.

For the large butterfly I sponged the base image with ink. I used sponge daubers and just tapped ink onto the stamp. After stamping that image, I inked the detail image with black ink and stamped over the solid image. The result is a beautiful butterfly! The small butterflies were stamped in Sweet Leaf, Pacifica and 2nd generations Pacifica. The large butterfly has 3D Foam Tape under the right wing so give a bit of dimension. The background was created with sponges and ink.

CTMH Technique Blog Hop - Call for Back-Up

Welcome to our CTMH Technique Hop! This month we're featuring the technique from page 80 of Annual Inspirations...Call for Back-up! If you've come from Darlys Recker's blog you're on the right path. Just click the link at the end of the post to continue on the hop.

In this technique you create a border using a punch and then back it with cardstock, , B&T paper, ribbon, etc. to make it stand out. Take a look at what I did for this hop.

I backed my chevron punched border with some Pink Glitter paper. It's so pretty and sparkly and really pull the pinks out of the stamped images up above. I used the Brushstrokes stamp set for the colors behind the butterflies. I stamped rolled to get the two ink colors. First you ink in a light color then just roll the edges on the darker ink pad. You won't mix your inks as long as you go from light to dark ink. Then I stamped some of the butterflies in black over the Brushstrokes images. The smaller butterflies are stamp rolled for the 2 color effect.

CTMH Technique Blog Hop - A Bit of Blot

 It's time for another Technique Hop challenge! This month we have 12 consultants sharing ideas on this theme which is all about blots! See page 55 in our Annual Expressions book.

So...what is a blot you ask? In this case its what you can do with an ink pad, acrylic block and spritzer! You can put in on the block directly from the ink pad as I did here. Or you can use a sponge dauber to pat ink on the block. Then you spritz it with water in our Spray Pen and stamp! Its that easy and you can make so many things this way. Here I've made backgrounds for flowers. I used a 1" x 1" block to create the background of the flower. Next I stamped the spike image on top to finish the flower. You get such unique looks this way! For the butterflies I used the stamp rolling technique. I first inked in Canary the tapped the edges on the Cotton Candy ink pad and stamped! As long as you go from a light to dark ink you won't contaminate your ink pads. Oh...for the Happy Birthday message I curved the stamp to fit around the 4 You image. Thats one of the great things about acrylic stamps!
