Stencil Tip

 Do you love to use stencils to color your images? I sure do, but sometimes a stencil is challenging to line up. Here is a tip I learned from Patty Bennett at a recent team meeting.

Stencil #1 is easy to line up with the stamped image. When you go to use #2 and #3 it's a lot harder to line it up. Take the stencil with the leaves and lay it under the flower stencils. Trace the leaves onto the stencil with a permanent marker. Now all you have to do is line up the leaves traced onto the stencil and fine tune adjust to the flower edges.

For those stencils that are hard to line up this tip is a HUGE help! Go ahead and give it a try!

I didn't know where exactly I wanted to go with this design. I knew I wanted to use a stencil. I thought I'd use other colors from the challenge. Well, as it often goes, I came up with something unexpected. That is the fun of crafting!

Using Sapphire, Periwinkle and Jade I stenciled the hearts as a layer for the card front. Keeping it simple, I used some thread and sparkles as accents.

Stenciled Birthday Card ~ Color Dare #570

I just love this color combo so much I had to make another sample for our color challenge! For the challenge you must use at least 3 of the colors shown in the graphic. See the graphic for the fine print rules.

Again I got out some of our new stencils I haven't used yet and put them to work. I love the lacy look of this design. I used all 4 of the colors in the challenge for this card. Starting with Ballerina I inked the center then Glacier around that and finally Journey around the outside edge. You'll find Mink in the mat and sentiment. Adding some Journey sequins added a nice bit of sparkle. The sentiment is popped up on foam for some dimension. Placing the sequins is easy with the Pick-up Tool. Use a pencil sharpener to get the tip started (not to a point like a pencil though). Then gently use it to pick up sequins or whatever else is hard to pick up with your fingers!

Slimline Budgie Card ~ Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #535

It's time for a new Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge! Are you ready to be inspired? I love this sketch because there is so many ways you can create the "spray" in the middle of the card front. The sketch goes live on Monday and opens for you to add your creation on Wednesday. 

I started out by stenciling the leaves to create a background "spray".  I used 3 colors of green to create some depth with the colors. Next I stamped the birds with Intense Black ink because it won't bleed when you color.  

The adorable little Budgies were colored using a Water Brush and ink from the lid of stamp pads. Then the Thin Cut Die was used to cut it out. No fussy cutting here!

I added some Dots in the brighter green and yellow plus some dots of Gold Metallic Paint Marker as embellishments.

Simple Card

This card was inspired by Laura Beacham. She is such a talented artist.

The colors is Lagoon and one of my favorites. As you can see the background was stenciled with the dots and a blending brush to create a pretty tone on tone look.. Simple enough...right? The floral image is one from our June Stamp of the Month: Botanical Shadows. This set is gorgeous!

I cut apart the 4 sections of the stencil on my paper trimmer. This makes it a lot easier to use each stencil design rather than wrestling with the entire 12" x 12" sheet.

Stenciled Butterfly Card ~ Color Dare #544

Welcome to a new color challenge from our Design Team at Color My Heart Color Dare. Each Friday we post a new challenge to inspire you. This challenge is a 3 color challenge. You MUST use all 3 colors. See the fine print in the graphic below for the rest of the rules.

I felt our new Butterfly Slimline Embossing Folder + Stencils (link below) would be a perfect way to create for this challenge. Using Cardstock in Peach, Harbour and Rosemary I created the layers on the card front. Now is the time to stock up on Cardstock during our big sale!

The Peach layer was embossed giving me the raised butterfly images. Then using the two coordinating stencils I added Exclusive Ink in Peach and Harbour with Blending Brushes. The sentiments are from the Cosette Cardmaking set and stamped in Rosemary Ink.

As a finishing touch I added Iridescent Flower Confetti to the design. This confetti is so pretty but the photo just doesn't show it off very well. Hint: placing the tiny confetti was easy using our Pick up Tool. All you have to do i touch the item and it picks right up for you to place on your project.

If you don't make slimline cards the embossing folder + stencils will still work for you! I used my "practice" piece to make these two standard size cards. I simple cut the embossed layer in half. Another way to use it is to just place your smaller sized cardstock in the folder where you want it. The stencil just those butterflies.

Sympathy Card ~ Color Dare #517 Tic Tac Toe

 Friday means a new Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge! This challenge is one of our popular Tic Tac Toe challenges. It's simple.... pick your colors by row, column, diagonal then use any of the others if you like. Make any paper craft you like. When you're ready to join the challenge use the link in the post on our home page.

I started with the left column of colors: Harbour, Peach and Sage. Then I added Gold, Honey Butter and Papaya.

With a card base from our White Cards and Envelopes Value Pack (a great deal) I cut layers of papers for the card front. I love the touch of sparkle with the Seabrook Glitter Paper. Cardstock used is White Daisy and Harbour. Exclusive Inks used are Intense Black, Harbour, Peach, Sage, Papaya, Honey Butter. 

This set is SO MUCH FUN! I first stamped the image then got busy with the stencils. You get 3 stencils for various parts  of the image. Using our new Blending Brushes I added the ink. These brushes are so soft and apply the ink very well. Once I was done with the stencils I used the Thin Cut die to cut out the image. 

I popped up with image on Thin Foam Tape to create some dimension to the design. The final touches were some Gold Glitter Gems and some shimmer from a Clear Shimmer Brush. The shimmer is very hard to see in a photo.
