Journey Layout ~ Color Dare #574

This week we're giving you our fun Tic Tac Toe color challenge. First pick your colors by row, column or diagonal. After that you can use any of the other colors in the grid. You can even use them all. What you can't do is add other colors not in the grid. See the graphic for the fine print rules.

We reference Close To My Heart colors but you can use any brand you have as long as you can make a very close match. Kind of close doesn't count. Be very careful with your colors if you're doing multiple challenges. Make any paper craft you like. When you're ready to join our challenge click here for the direct link to Color Dare #574.

Taking colors from the photos, I started with the left to right diagonal: Journey, Silver, Honey Butter. I then added Limeade and Mist. Using the stencil seen below and blending brushes I created the background. The larger photo is popped up on thin foam tape. I added journal strips and lightly added some Journey ink to soften the look. Journey sequins are sprinkled around to add some prettiness.

In the photos below you can see a close-up of the Silver Dots added with a Silver Paint Marker.  It makes a nice edge so your eye doesn't roam off the page. On the right you can see the title a bit better. I used our Journey Glitter Paper and Adhesive Sheets so I could make a sticker. The delicate lines of the word were much easier to place on the layout as a sticker rather than to use liquid glue.

I used the stencil in the upper left corner. This is unique in that you use the stencil 4 times. You rotate it to get the full image! It's a lot easier than it might sound. The other two stencils in the pack work the same way.

Cricut Card ~ Color Dare #483

Welcome to our newest challenge from our Design Team at Color Dare! We have some fun colors for you to use and can't wait to see what you make with them!

We reference Close To My Heart colors but  you can use any brand you have as long as you can make a very close match. Kind of close doesn't count. Make any paper craft you like. when you're ready to join the challenge use the link in the post on our home page.

In the challenge we tell you to use at least 3 of the colors. I ended up using all the colors! Using my Cricut I cut out the word happy in all the color except Mink. I glued them with Tombow Liquid Glue so they were offset layered onto each other. The balloon and string were Cricut cut from Gold Glitter paper and Silver Foil.  The spatters around the edge of the card were done with matching colors of Shimmer Brushes. The balloon is popped up with some Thin 3D Foam Tape.

Fall Slimline Birthday Card ~ Inspirational Photo

Friday means it's time for a new Color Dare Challenge! This week we're challenging you to use colors you see in the photo below. There are a lot to choose from so look it over carefully! When you have your colors make any paper craft you like. To join the challenge use the link in the post on our home page. Simple!

I love the digital art we have for the Pumpkin Spice Suite. Once I looked over the images I decided a slimline card and the spray of flowers was the way to go!

Once you purchase the digital collection you upload it to your cutting machine like Cricut Design Space. Other machines work, too. Then go about using it as you usually would and create your project.

After cutting all the images and gluing them together on the card front the card was almost finished. I used some paper from the Mix-in pack and a couple stickers from the Pumpkin Spice pack. The final touch was to use some Pearls to dot around the floral spray.

Inside of card. The round sticker and border are both from the Pumpkin Spice pack.

These are the images in this collection. You can manipulate them in many ways to get the look you want. For my card I eliminated the sign and sentiment on the floral spray.

  • Stamp Set: B1750 Happy Birthday Song (inside sentiment)
  • Paper Pack: X7272S Pumpkin Spice, X9032 Mix-in pack

Anything Goes - August Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to our monthly Technique Blog Hop! On the 15th of the month our talented group of Makers showcase a different technique. This month it's Anything Goes so you are going to see all kinds of techniques on this hop!

The blog before mine belongs to Jayma Malme. It's one big circle so just click the link in each post to go to the next blog. Sit back and get ready to be WOW'd!

For my technique I decided to do some background stenciling on a slimline card. I love these flowers but just didn't feel like all that coloring. Instead I added color by stenciling. It's not a lot of color but just enough to feel like the flowers have some color. I cut the stencil with my Cricut using one of the overlay pattern. The ink was sponged onto the cardstock with a random sort of pattern for the ink.

I also used the masking technique on the flowers. I stamped the flowers on scrap paper then cut them out. Laying the mask on top of the stamped flower allows you to stamp another flower so it looks like it's partially behind the masked flower.

Adding some touches of sparkle with glitter paper really stepped up the look! I love a card with sparkle!

May Stamp of the Month Blog Hop ~ Flower for You

Welcome to our Stamp of the Month Blog Hop. Each month our group of talented Close To My Heart Makers does a blog hop featuring the Stamp of the Month and this month is it a really gorgeous stamp set!

The blog before mine belongs to Haley Dyer. To hop to the next blog justvclick the link at the end of my post.  Sit back, relax and prepare to be WOW'd!

As soon as I saw this stamp set I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I love everything about it and my mind started working on designs before it even arrived! I envisioned an embossed image colored with metallic markers and it came out so well!

My first step was to use my Cricut to cut out circles in the size I needed (3", 3 1/4", 3 1/2"). I embossed the circle image on black cardstock then colored in with the markers. I love how the colors look on black! After layering the circles I got busy on the rest of the card front.

Because our stamps are acrylic you can cut them apart! When you want to use the full stamp you just put them together on the block. I wanted to use the long flower border along the bottom but the middle flower was going to be in the way of the circles. So I snipped on each side and just used the shorter flowers across the bottom.

For the sentiment I made the stamps curve a bit to fit the shape of the circle. Just put the stamp on the block then move the ends a bit to form the curve. Press the stamp down again in that position then stamp! Our My Acrylix stamps the best!!!

In the close-up you can see how I colored the flowers. I used small strokes and didn't fill in the entire area. It allows some of the black to show in the flowers which shows off the color.

One the inside of the card added a sentiment and look.... the tall flower I snipped out of the border works great here!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #412

Welcome to our sketch challenge for this week. The Design Team at Atlantic Hearts has so many wonderful ideas to share using this sketch. Sit back and enjoy the fun then join us and create something of your own using the sketch.

For this sketch I decided to make a layout rather than a card. You can make any paper craft you like so don't limit your thoughts to one type of item.

I started with some pattern paper from the Lovely Paper Pack and added a bottom border of paper from the Wood Grain pack. Both these packs have so many beautiful patterns! Be sure to check them out! I added a border of White Glitter Paper over the seam of the other two papers creating a nice finished look. The Evergreen Glitter Paper was used for the title and shamrocks. The final touch was to add some  Gold Glitter Gems sprinkled around the shamrocks. Oops! Forgot to mention the bow was made with our Small Bow Thin Cut Dies.

I used my Cricut to cut the title and shamrocks. The shamrocks come from our Flower Market Collection. To line up the title I put a rule across the page at the level I wanted the bottom of the letters. I taped it to my table with washi tape. This makes it easy to get a straight line of letters or images! You can get the Flower Market Collection by clicking on the Cricut image in the right column.

Riding Lessons Layout

I had fun making this layout of my grandson at riding lessons. Here he is on a pony named Violet. He is loving this new experience!

For the layout I started by choosing colors from the photo for my papers. Espresso, Sapphire and Fern were they way to go along with some wood pattern paper in browns. Using a pattern from one of our How-to books I got started!

This pattern was so quick and easy it almost made itself! haha  After I had the papers cut and on the layout I  realized I had a lot of space to fill and I only had one photo that was 4" x 6".  One way to take care of that was to mat the photo with larger mats to make it look bigger! The final size with mats is 5" x 7" which turned out to be perfect!

I used me Cricut to cut the title and do the journal piece and roughed up the edges of the mat. The dots you see are Stickles Glitter Glue to give it a look like nails. Did you notice the spatters on the background? I did that by tapping a shimmer brush on my finger. It gives a nice look to "fill in" empty space without actually filling it in!

Joy Christmas Card

Jenny Hall for Honey Bee stamps made a beautiful card and I was so inspired I just had to give it a try myself! Here is my version.

The background was made with Distress Oxide Inks. I wasn't too crazy about the look at first but once I spritzed with water I was all in! The pine leaves were cut with my Cricut along with the JOY sentiment. I also spattered with some shimmer pens to give it a nice ..... well....shimmer! The final touch was adding a couple clear gems.

Joy was cut from holographic paper. It look beautiful with the colors of the card!

Serenity Layout ~ Color Dare #422 Tic Tac Toe

Here's another fun tic Tad Toe challenge from the Design Team at Color My Heart Color Dare! The way it works is you pick your colors by row, column or diagonal. After that you can also use some of the other colors  in the grid. You can even use them all!

We reference Close To My Heart colors but you can use any brand you have as long as you can make a very close match! Kind of close doesn't count. We also have some FREE colors for you to use if you like. Make any paper craft you like and when you're ready use the link in the post on our home page.

Here's the scoop on my layout. I love the Serenity paper suite and so my colors turned out to be the first column: Blue Belle, Toffee and Sapphire. I also used Pewter with the other colors. The design is simple with a strip of the flower paper across the middle. The flower accents come from the Cricut Serenity Collection. For the centers I used a Gold Metallic Marker for the spikes and Onyx Pearl for the middle. The little branches with the round bud were printed on white cardstock so I used True Blue Shades marker to color the stem so they look like the ones in the patter paper. The leaves looks two tone because I used both sides of our cardstock since there is a light and dark side to each sheet. The title is a sneak peek at the December Stamp of the Month which goes live in a couple days.

Pattern Paper glued to wood heart then trimmed.

  • Paper Pack: Serenity
  • Cardstock: Sapphire, Toffee, Pewter, White Daisy

  • Triblend Marker: True Blue Shades
  • Metallic Marker: Gold Nugget

Fun Halloween Project

Free Cricut Design Space™ File for Halloween Treat Tags

Free Design Space Tags File #ctmh #closetomyheart #ctmhgotcandy #free #cricut #designspace #halloweentags #tags #diytags #trickortreat #artphilosophy

Halloween may look a bit different this year than what we’re used to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have some fun! To keep the tradition of offering treats where treats are due, we’ve designed a few tags in Cricut Design Space™ using our festive Got Candy? paper collection and we’re sharing our designer’s file with you free, here!

The spooky themes of the Got Candy? patterned papers and stickers paired with the versatile shapes of our Art Philosophy Cricut® collection are a scream-of-a-treat all on their own! To access our free file, you will need your own access to the shapes of the Art Philosophy collection. Four of the seven pieces are tags that come together quickly with a few cut shapes, stickers, and some ribbon. If you take a closer look at the remaining three, you’ll notice that there’s a little something extra about them.

These remaining few pieces also come together easily, but they do have some extra features! There’s a tag that has a pocket to carry a gift card, a tag that opens up to a card, and a hanging door tag that can hold a small treat (perfect for ding dong ditching!).

Whether you choose to make just one or all of these delectable handmade tags, we hope you continue to find ways to enjoy sharing the festive Halloween spirit this year. If you have any questions about these projects or would like to share ways that you’ve been using the Got Candy? paper collection, leave us a comment below!

For additional crafting fun with our Got Candy? collection, don’t forget to join us later this week, October 21 and 22, at 2 p.m. (MDT), on our Facebook page where we will be hosting a free live workshop, making scrapbook pages and treat toppers! (Visit our events page for more details.)
