Color Dare #214 ~ Thistle, Pear, Black and White Daisy

Guess what day it is? It's Friday and that means a new
Color My Heart color dare!
This week the colors are Thistle, Pear, Black and White. Pear was recently retired so instead I used the new color Willow.

This was a quick and easy card to make. I used the Brushstroke stamp set to make the flowers. The big circle image was too big for the flowers I wanted so I used a sponge dauber and sponged the ink onto the stamp making a smaller image. The flower stem is one of the arrows. Take a look at the banners under the flower layer. I used White Shimmer Trim and daubed ink onto it! FUN! There are little Bitty Sparkles on the flower centers. The white of the flower center is actually White Shimmer Trim but it's hard to see in the photo. The Bitty Sparkles were colored with a marker to match the flowers.

Color Dare #194 ~ Blues with White and Black

this week, the Color My Heart Design Team is challenging you with a blue palette: Sapphire, Pacifica and Crystal Blue with White Daisy and Black. Blue is one of my favorite colors and I knew an idea I saw on Pinterest would be a good way to show off the blues!

Sometimes you need to think out of the box when looking at the images in a stamp set. I used the Brushstrokes stamp set to create the flower on my layout. See that long image in the top right? Those are the flower petals. The circle of course is the flower center! Did you see the potential for a flower when looking at this stamp set? Take a close look at your stamp sets. Turn it sideways. Turn it upside down. Think outside that box and you may see the potential for all kinds of unexpected designs!
So I stamped some of the petals in Sapphire and Pacifica directly on the layout base. Then I stamped more on some scrap cardstock in Pacifica and Crystal Blue with the edges rolled in Pacifica. After fussy cutting the petals I started layering them on the petals stamped on the layout base. I only glued down the end in the center end of the petal so I could use some Thin 3D Foam Tape under the outside end to give some depth to the flower. It kind of reminds me of a Zinnia. What do you think? For the stem and leaf I just stamped in black since we didn't have a green on the palette.

CTMH Technique Blog Hop - Call for Back-Up

Welcome to our CTMH Technique Hop! This month we're featuring the technique from page 80 of Annual Inspirations...Call for Back-up! If you've come from Darlys Recker's blog you're on the right path. Just click the link at the end of the post to continue on the hop.

In this technique you create a border using a punch and then back it with cardstock, , B&T paper, ribbon, etc. to make it stand out. Take a look at what I did for this hop.

I backed my chevron punched border with some Pink Glitter paper. It's so pretty and sparkly and really pull the pinks out of the stamped images up above. I used the Brushstrokes stamp set for the colors behind the butterflies. I stamped rolled to get the two ink colors. First you ink in a light color then just roll the edges on the darker ink pad. You won't mix your inks as long as you go from light to dark ink. Then I stamped some of the butterflies in black over the Brushstrokes images. The smaller butterflies are stamp rolled for the 2 color effect.

Color Dare #134 ~ Cotton Candy, Olive & Lagoon + Black and White Daisy

Color My Heart color dares are a fun and easy way to get the creative ideas flowing. The colors are selected for you, so that's one big decision out of the way! After that all you need to do is choose the way you want to use those colors! Anything goes at this point.....cards, layouts, decor....it's up to you!

This was a quick and easy card that also has something special added to it. The stamp set is called You're the Bomb and it's our current Operation Smile stamp set. Operation Smile is a wonderful organization that provides surgical procedures to correct facial deformities in children. Close To My Heart will donate $3 of the proceeds to Operation Smile! You can change the life of a child with just one stamp set! You're the Bomb is only available until March 31, 2015 so order yours now!

On the card I stamped second generation images for behind the words. This image is from the Brushstrokes set. After popping the circles with 3D Foam, I wrapped some Pixie Extra Thick Twine around it and tied it to look a bit like a tassel. I added some bling to act like bullet points for the words and the card was done!
