May Stamp of the Month Blog Hop ~ Flower for You

As soon as I saw this stamp set I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I love everything about it and my mind started working on designs before it even arrived! I envisioned an embossed image colored with metallic markers and it came out so well!

My first step was to use my Cricut to cut out circles in the size I needed (3", 3 1/4", 3 1/2"). I embossed the circle image on black cardstock then colored in with the markers. I love how the colors look on black! After layering the circles I got busy on the rest of the card front. 

Because our stamps are acrylic you can cut them apart! When you want to use the full stamp you just put them together on the block. I wanted to use the long flower border along the bottom but the middle flower was going to be in the way of the circles. So I snipped on each side and just used the shorter flowers across the bottom. 

For the sentiment I made the stamps curve a bit to fit the shape of the circle. Just put the stamp on the block then move the ends a bit to form the curve. Press the stamp down again in that position then stamp! Our My Acrylix stamps the best!!!

In the close-up you can see how I colored the flowers. I used small strokes and didn't fill in the entire area. It allows some of the black to show in the flowers which shows off the color.

One the inside of the card added a sentiment and look.... the tall flower I snipped out of the border works great here!

Metallic Floral Card #3

This is the third card in my sharing of Metallic Markers on black cardstock. Click here for Card #1. Click here for Card #2.

As I've mentioned, using the metallic markers on black cardstock makes a dramatic look. For this card I went all out with the colors and created a pretty bouquet look. 

First I used an embossing folder to create the raised image. I used black cardstock with a white core and sometimes it cracks when being embossed. To prevent this I simply put a piece of white (or any other color) cardstock on top of the black and embossed them together. This prevents the black from cracking and now I also have a white embossed piece to use on another project!

Once I had the embossing done I was ready to color. You just color the raised part of the image. The ink from the metallic marker flows easily with very little pressure. Just move it across the raised image with either the brush or bullet end of the marker. 

When I finished coloring I cut the 4" square piece into 2" squares. I layered the squares on Gold Foil then black cardstock. At the bottom of the card I layered a sentiment popping it up a bit with foam tape. The Gold Thread ties in with the color foil. 

This is a 5" x 7" card.

Metallic Floral Card #2

 Here is my next card using our Metallic Markers. This one is done in a more monochrome look. I chose to go with a copper tone and the photo really doesn't do it justice. Here's a link to the first card.

As before, I started by dry embossing a floral design into the cardstock. To keep the black cardstock from cracking and showing the white core while being embossed I placed a white piece of cardstock on top of the black. Now I also have a white embossed piece for a different project. 

The idea is to use the marker on only the top part of the embossed design. The ink flows so easily you don't need any pressure at all. Using the metallic markers on black cardstock creates a dramatic look, don't you think? 

To create the layers I put the embossed layer on Copper Ore. It's a special cardstock with a soft metallic look to it. The card base is white covered with a piece of Scarlet cardstock. When comparing the copper colors with my cardstock I was surprised to see that Scarlet was the best choice. Next to the copper it takes on a rusty dull red look. Very pretty!

Metallic Flowers ~ Card #1

In this post I'm sharing a really fun technique using our Metallic Markers. It's a lot of fun and can give you some really dramatic results! I've made several different versions of this card and will be sharing them over the next week so be sure to come back and check them out. Ok, let's go!

I love blue and silver together and here is a very pretty example of this combo. The metallic markers work on all kinds of paper but the  most dramatic is to use them on black cardstock! Here is my 5" x 7" card.

First I used an embossing folder to create the raised image. I used black cardstock with a white core and sometimes it cracks when being embossed.
