Simple Christmas Card ~ Team Challenge

Wow! It's already September and time to start thinking about all those Christmas card we need to make! This card is a Throwback design to my early days as a CTMH Consultant in 1996!!! I love this design and it's stayed in my mind all this years. Every so often I recreate it and love it every time.

With different stamp sets and products at hand it always looks and turns out a little different, but that's the fun of stamping. The idea is to create a snowy hill with fir trees in the distance. Then up front you have one beautiful tree that show off a pretty gold star. The colors have changed a bit over the years as the very first one I made was dressed in teal and bright pink. Today I decided to go with traditional colors. It looks great in any colors!

First you need to tear a piece of scrap paper with a curve for the hill. This will be your mask for stamping the tip of the tree image. After stamping the sentiment in the upper right as a guide for positioning the trees going down the hill, I inked the tip of the tree and stamped on the CS and mask. I varied the height of the trees and worked my way down the hill. I did the same masking for the larger version of the tree since the full image would be too tall for my space.

Now glue the white stamped layer to your card base. I lined the outside edge of the white layer with post-it notes to protect the red CS while I applied the embossing paste. I carefully smeared the Shimmery embossing paste under the trees to "ground them" and create the look of snow. Keep smearing the paste around to your liking but don't cover the entire area. Kind of think of it like you're just creating the snow drifts.

Once finished with the snow, add a drop of glue to the top of the large tree. Using the Take Your Tip tool with the putty tip, pick up a gold star and place it at the top of the tree.

That's it! Now just give the paste a little drying time. Don't forget to clean your palette knife! The paste dries faster than you might think.

Not sure if you can see the shimmer of the paste or not. Trust me it's there and looks beautiful!

Snowflake Card ~ Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

Today I'm sharing another Christmas Card idea as part of our sketch challenge at Atlantic Hearts. This sketch is a great way to make a lot of cards with a minimum of supplies!

When you use our sketch you can flip, flop, rotate, etc. We just need to see the sketch in your project. Make any paper craft you like. The link to join the sketch opens on Wednesday.

I love how the greens look together with small touches of other colors. The top 2 papers were cut 2" square. The bottom paper was cut 2" x 2 1/2". The snowflakes were cut on my Cricut with White Glitter paper with the largest one popped up on some foam tape.

By the way..... we offer a great deal on card and envelopes! We have a White Cards and Envelopes Value Pack where you can get 50 cards and envelopes for only $16.95 US. I always keep a pack on hand but especially when getting to be the time of year and Christmas cards need to be made!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

Glitter paper is hard to photo but I think you get the idea in the close-up.  I used a Silver Glitter Gem in the center of each snowflake.

Peace on Earth Card ~ Color Dare #466

The Design Team at Color My Heart Color Dare is starting a new challenge for you today that will be open for 2 weeks. Pick at least 3 colors from our grid and creating any paper craft you like.

We reference Close To My Heart colors but you can use any brand you have as long as you can make a very close match. Kind of close doesn't count. Make any paper craft you like. When you're ready to join the challenge use the link in the post on our home page.

I went with a Christmas theme for my card. The design is inspired by the talented Laura Beacham. I love the simple look that also make it easy to make. The colors I used are Mulberry, Sangria and Rosemary + Gold.

Everything was stamped in Intense Black ink. This ink allows you to color in without smudging. I also used a Journal Pen to hand draw the line at the bottom. This line is important as it grounds the angel.

A hint of Gold Shimmer brush is on the heart and goes with the sequins to tie it all together.

Santa Card

Today I want to share a really easy and simple card for Christmas, although you could use the design for any occasion just by changing the image.

Using one of the dies from the Thin Cut set seen below I cut the fancy edged rectangle to stamp my image on. I colored with markers an added some shimmer to the fur on his hat.

I mounted this on glitter paper using foam tape. You need something stronger than a tape runner for it to stick to the texture of the glitter paper.

I used a scoring tool to dry emboss lines 1/4" from the edges of the card front I placed the card face down on my paper trimmer so the line would be raised on the front. Next I gently ran the scoring tool down the track of the paper trimmer being careful not to press too hard and tear the cardstock. This gives a bit of texture and adds to the simple look.

Shaker Christmas Card

Don't you just love an extra  pretty Christmas Card? Even better is making one to send to someone special! This is one of those cards. It's full of beautiful details to capture your eye.

I started with layers of cardstock and topped it off with paper from our Holly and Ivy papers. Next comes the shaker with all kinds of pretties to shake!

Using our special Thin Cut die I cut the back circle,  stamped a sentiment on it and glued to the card front. With our foam and acetate pack making the shaker is simple! Place the foam ring around the outside edge of the cardstock circle (save the other pieces of foam for other projects). Sprinkle your shaker pieces into the center of the circle. You don't need a lot, just enough to shake and still see the sentiment if you put one inside. Now peel off the film on the acetate and place on top of the foam. You've just make a shaker!

Finally, place a decorative piece to complete the look. Here I used Glitter Paper. The shakers pieces are a combination of loose gems and sequins that go with the colors in the paper.

Christmas in July Blog Hop

Welcome to our Christmas in July Blog Hop. Close To My Heart has a great special going on right now and we wanted to feature it while it's live. The Bring Back My Pack Special gives us another chance with the White Pines pack. The colors have been updated to go with our current colors. There are stamp sets and bundles of products just waiting for you!

The blog before mine is Alyson Mayo.  Click the link in each post to go to the next blog for more inspiring ideas. Click here for a full list of the participants.

I decided to make a slimline card for the hop and went with a winter scene theme. I wanted to show an idea beyond the stamp sets in the special so I used the Winter Scene stamp set from our Core Catalog.

The slimline card is 3.5" x 8.5". I cut the White Pines papers 1.5" and 2" wide and the length of the card. I covered the seam with Shimmer Trim. The image layer is 3" x 6". The sentiment is part of a Zip Border.

To create a frosty look I used some Stickles on the tree branches, snow drifts and the larger snowflakes.

On the inside I used another piece of the Zip Border for the sentiment and the gifts. The snowflakes are another Zip Border from the pack. Zip Borders are a huge asset for creating!

Jingle Joy Non-traditional Colors ~ Color Dare

Last minute card makers here you go! This challenge is to make cards with Non-traditional Christmas colors. Use the wreath photo below for inspiration. Make any paper craft you like AND it does not need to be a Christmas card!

When you're ready use the link in the post on our Color My Heart Color Dare home page to join the challenge. Our Design Team can't wait to see what you make!

I love using non-traditional colors for Christmas card. A trend this year to using black. I added pops of pink and green to go with the black and love the look. I simply stamped the trees in black leaving a spot to stamp the one tree in color. I added some touches of Gold Stickles and Shimmer Trim just because! The sentiment actually comes from the Jingle Joy Die Cuts and just snipped off the end with the hole.

Other Close To My Heart products used for this card.
  • White Cards an Envelopes Value Pack
  • Paper Pack: Jingle Joy
  • Cardstock: White Daisy, Flamingo, Clover
  • Exclusive Inks: Black, Clover, Flamingo
  • Gold Shimmer Trim, Goldenrod Stickles

Color Dare #265 ~ Bashful, Pomegranate, Black, White optional Silver

COLOR DARE 265 IS OPEN OCTOBER 13-26, 2017

Last week we were blue but now we're in the pink! I decided to create another Christmas card in
non-traditional colors because....well....I just love doing that!

This card was easy to make because the ornaments all have a matching Thin Cut! No fussy cutting needed here! Even the Ribbon Border Thin Cut was used to make the "hanger" for the middle ornament. I just snipped off the bow and positioned it on the ornament. That ornament is also popped up with foam tape. The polka dots and hearts were covered in the Clear Shimmer Brush for some sparkle.

All products are Close To My Heart
  • Stamp Set: Silver And Gold - Cardmaking + Thin Cuts
  • White Cards and Envelopes Value Pack
  • Cardstock: White Daisy, Pomegranate, Bashful
  • Exclusive Inks: Pomegranate, Black
  • Specialty Paper: Silver Foil
  • Thin Cuts: Ribbon Border
  • Embellishments: Shimmer Brush-Clear, Bitty Sparkles
  • Thin 3D Foam Tape
If you need a consultant I'd be happy to help.
If you'd like to BE a consultant I can help with that, too!

Now it's time for you to use these colors to create any paper craft you like. If you don't have an exact color you can substitute something close BUT don't add any brand new colors to the palette. Full details are in the post on our home page. We love seeing your creations so go on and get busy!

Get your fingers inky!
