Decorative Shapes Layout

Today I'm sharing another idea for using that spectacular Decorative Shapes Thin Cuts! You have a total of 18 shapes to use in the obvious ways..... OR ...... use the shapes in unusual ways!

Did you see birdhouses or a fence in the shapes above? I bet you do now! Look at my layout to see the shapes I used. I forgot to include the tab shape but I did use it for the pink tab.

I started with building a fence. The small arrow shape was die cut many times but only a partial cut to get the top. I then lined it up on my paper trimmer to get the full slat of the fence. I also inked the edges of each slat with black ink for some definition since I knew I'd be using a white base for the layout.

After I had the fence made I turned to the base page. I knew I wanted clouds for the sky so I got out my cloud stencil, blending brush and Glacier Ink. If you don't have a cloud stencil you can easily make one. Take a piece of cardstock and cut some curves along the edge. When you apply the ink you're actually creating the space/shadows between the clouds.

After the clouds were done I got busy adding the fence to the layout. I tore some strips of cardstock for grass and tucked the fence between the layers. The next part was adding the birdhouses, tabs and accents. The title and butterflies come from the Gnomes for Spring stamp set. When inking the sentiment I dragged it across the pad then stamped it for that streaked look.

Clean and Simple Card ~ Color Dare #593

Welcome to our latest challenge at Color Dare! For this challenge you MUST use Honey Butter plus only ONE of the colors in the bottom row. See the graphic for the fine print rules.

We reference Close To My Heart colors but you can use any brand you have as long as you can make a very close match. Kind of close doesn't count. Make any paper craft you like. When you're ready to join our challenge click here!

I decided to pair Honey Butter with Royal for my project. I also knew I wanted to make something clean. and simple. Since my Decorative Shapes Thin Cuts were sitting on my desk top I put them to use...again! Since Royal is such a bright and bold color I kept used it for small shapes so as not to overpower the others. I like the white glitter paper as an added layer to the design. The shapes in colored cardstock as popped up on foam tape.

I kept the sentiment simple, too. I added some scored lines around it for fun.

Simple Cut Out Card ~ Atlantic Heats Sketch Challenge #569

This sketch challenge is pretty simple and easy...... or you can make it more complex. Either way it's fun and creates a pretty card when done!

Each Monday we give you a new sketch to inspire you creative thoughts. You can use as is or flip, flop, rotate, etc. We just need to be able to see the sketch in your project. Wednesday our blog opens for you to link your project!

I decided I was in a keep it simple creative mood today. I kept it so simple I created the look of making a pattern for the cut out by using plaid pattern paper! I love these two papers from the Honey Bunny pack and it made me happy to use them together.

After using the die cut I glued the plaid paper to the back of the cardstock. I distressed the edges of all cardstock and popped up with foam tape. A few yellow Dots added a nice touch to finish it off.

Cute Chick Card ~ March Stamp of the Month

NOTE: It's still business as usual for March-April.

It's Friday and that means a new color challenge from our team at Color Dare! For this challenge you pick your colors from a row, column or diagonal. After that you can add other colors from the grid. Please see the graphic for the fine print rules.

We reference Close To My Heart colors but you can use any brand you have as long as you can make a very close match. Kind of close doesn't count. Make any paper craft you like. When you're ready click here to join our challenge.

My card was inspired by Kim Wolff. Her's was so cute I just had to recreate it with my own spin for this color challenge! I used the top row of colors: Papaya, Sage and Sundance.

This is another example of how to use the Decorative Shapes Thin Cuts in an "out of the box" way. Did you see birdhouses when you looked at this set? Now I bet you can't un-see it!

This idea pairs so well with the March Stamp of the Month. What a great look! The chick is paper pieced so get that polka dot look. The arrows have a stitched edge making it easy to use a marker for the roof.

I had to get a bit creative for the openings to the birdhouses. I started looking at my desktop for something to use and came up with the blade container for my Cricut blades. I traced it then colored it in. For the smaller birdhouse I landed on using the center of the small flower Thin Cut. I traced the center then colored it in. Perfect and well proportioned to the houses!

The flowers were colored with a marker for the center and a shimmer brush for the petals keeping a nice white look. Finally, I used some yellow Dots to draw coordinate with the chick. thick is also popped up for dimension.

Decorative Shapes Thin Cuts Card ~ Color Dare #591

Here is an easy color challenge from our team at Cole Dare ......... or is it? You must use Black and White with ONE other color. That it's. Only ONE color with no other Neutrals or Metallics. Make any paper craft you like. When you're ready to join our challenge click here.

I'm showing off our new Decorative Shapes Thin Cuts set because there is SO much you can do with it! This card was inspired by Jeanie Burch. Stay tuned for more great ideas on using this Thin Cut set in "out of the box" ways.

Using the banner dies I created the cats.Did you see cats when you looked at those dies? How fun is that? I also used the circle die for a mask to create the moon. Some white whiskers and black dots completed the cat faces. A simple sentiment was used so as not to up stage those cute cats. A wash of Clear Shimmer was painted on the moon for some sparkly fun.

Atlantic Hearts sketch Challenge #567

Welcome to our first sketch challenge of March! Each Monday there is a new sketch to inspired you. Create with the sketch as is or flip, flop, twist, rotate as you please! We just need to be able to see the sketch in your project.

I stayed pretty true to the sketch this time. I used a pretty pattern paper from our current Gnomes for Spring promotion. Since there is so much detail in the paper I kept the images simple by using solid cardstock colors.

The images were cut using our new and fantastic Decorative Shapes Thin Cut dies. You better get yours right now because I predict these will be so poplar as to sell out quickly! There are 18 fun shapes that nest with each other or look great on their own.
